As part of our digital transformation, we have significant investments in innovative big data capabilities to support our customer obsessed culture and growing data science practice.

We are looking for a hands-on data technology leader that can help us build our next generation, cloud enabled data ecosystem. 

Each day, our MDM solutions and analytic platforms crunch terabytes of data to deliver millions of personalized interactions across our channels (web, mobile, phones, etc.) for 36 million individual investors. The right candidate will own the creation our new end to end digital data ecosystem including real-time event ingestion, data lake and predictive model “factory” platform capabilities supporting AI/ML algorithms driving our future customer experiences via virtual agents, chat bots, etc.

This position will be based in Durham, NC, Smithfield, RI or Boston, MA

The Purpose of your role


  • Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to define and deliver our next generation data ecosystem.
  • Partner with data science and customer experience teams on the application of big data, AI and machine learning.
  • Drive a holistic information management strategy including capability roadmaps across advanced analytic, big data and OLTP platforms.
  • Construct and motivate high-performance teams to deliver innovative solutions while fostering a continuous learning environment.
  • Analyze and manage technology cost drivers to ensure efficient scale and support of platform capabilities including public cloud migration.
  • Continuously evaluate and prototype emerging technologies within developer community to understand business value and feasibility.
  • Identify automation opportunities with the goal of increasing developer productivity and reducing total cost of ownership while improving time to market delivery.

  • Deep background in recruiting, developing and retaining global technology talent.
  • Proven ability to inspire confidence, create executive presentations and guide strategic discussions with senior management.
  • Mastery of Big Data Ecosystem technologies with hands on experience implementing data ingestion, storage, processing and publication solutions.
  • Expertise in open source streaming products, Microservices and Message Oriented Middleware, Stream processing, Master Data Management, Data Lake, Deep Analytic technologies, BI Reporting and Analytics.
  • Hands on experience with public and private cloud capabilities including compute, storage, database and analytics.
  • Enthusiasm for designing end to end data engineering solutions using a variety of data processing patterns: Lambda, Kappa, Event Driven architecture, Data as a Service, Polyglot persistence, Domain Driven Design, etc.
  • Strong foundation in data analytics, data engineering and support of statistical model development (SAS, R, Python, etc.) and model scoring.

The Expertise We Are Looking For

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or technical field required. PhD in Software Engineering or Computer Science preferred.
  • Demonstrated technology and personal leadership experience in enterprise data governance, data security, data warehousing, data analytics and online transaction processing (OLTP) data management technologies.
  • Extensive experience running enterprise data development teams including deep knowledge of data movement, ETL/ELT, RDBMS, MDM, HDFS, NoSQL, Graph database, PostgresSQL, messaging, API and in-memory technologies. Hands on experience with Oracle Exadata, Cassandra, Greenplum, Kafka, Hadoop, Spark, and Informatica technologies is desired.
  • Experience with data virtualization, production use of open source technologies and external cloud deployment (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for data storage and compute capabilities.
  • Solid experience in Agile methodologies
  • Experience with DevOps, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (Maven, Jenkins, Stash, Ansible, Docker)
  • This role requires 10+ years of data and analytic technology delivery experience.
